Cranes in Flight
A steel wall sculpture by Jeremy Franklin, in three compositions and four finishes. Limited to 100 hand-numbered sets.
A crane in flight is one of the most composed sights in nature. The neck reaches fully forward, the legs trail straight behind, and the wings open to a span wider than the bird is long. Painters across East Asia have studied that silhouette for centuries, and it has come to stand for longevity, fidelity and good fortune.
Cranes in Flight brings that silhouette into the home at the scale of architecture. Designed by artist Jeremy Franklin and commissioned exclusively for Raven Steel Works, each crane is drawn by hand, then cut in steel with feather detail fine enough to reward a close look. Mounted a full inch off the wall, the cranes cast a second flight in shadow that shifts with the light from morning to evening.
The collection is offered as three distinct works rather than one design in three quantities. Each is composed for a different kind of wall, and each is available in four finishes.
Three works, one flight
Three Cranes in Flight
Three cranes rising on a single diagonal. Made for walls with height: a stair, an entry, the space above a console or bed.

Four Cranes in Flight
Four cranes arranged as two pairs, a leading couple and a following couple. Made for walls with a strong center: a dining room, a wall between windows.

Five Cranes in Flight
Five cranes in a full flight on a long, shallow arc. Made for walls with length: a great room, a gallery hallway, a double-height stair hall.

The finishes
Black. Pure silhouette, and the most graphic of the four. Strongest against white or warm-white plaster.
Bronze. Deep and warm, with the gravity of cast work. At home against wood paneling, shiplap and linen-toned walls.
Copper. Warm metal that catches low light and glows at the end of the day. Pairs with warm whites, sand and soft terracotta.
Cream. A soft warm white, and the quietest of the four. On a muted wall such as fog blue, sage or greige, the cranes read almost entirely through their shadows.
Size
Each composition is proportioned for rooms of generous height, where the work hangs above furniture or carries a wall on its own: a console, a sideboard, a bed, a stair. Full dimensions for every crane appear on each product page.
The artist
Cranes in Flight was designed by Jeremy Franklin and commissioned exclusively for Raven Steel Works. Every crane in the collection was drawn individually, so no bird is a scaled copy of another, and each set is composed as its own work.
Made in steel
Each crane is laser-cut from 2 mm (approx. 14-gauge) steel and completed in Everra™ Finish, Raven Steel's signature finishing process. Each crane mounts on two concealed standoffs that hold it a full inch off the wall, so light and shadow become part of the piece. Stainless steel screws, wall anchors and a paper hanging template are included. The cranes are suited to interior walls and covered patios; to preserve the finish, keep them sheltered from direct weather.
The edition
Cranes in Flight is a strictly limited edition. Only 100 sets will be created in this design, across all three compositions and four finishes. Each set is hand-numbered on the reverse and arrives with a numbered certificate of authenticity that corresponds to it. Once the edition is complete, the design will not be produced again. Each set is made to order.
